Perhentian Islands

Just thought we'd sign in and let you know where we are! Internet is pretty tight, so just a very quick recap, and I'll update more soon!

We spent the last 6 days on the north east coast of Malaysia, in Pulau Perhentian (The Perhentian Islands) - where we spent our time on Pulau Kecil (or "Small Island" as the locals like to say). We took a 30 minute speed boat over from Kuala Besut (the day after an 8 hour bus ride from KL). The island was tiny - such a laid back atmosphere. Nothing to do but eat, lay on the beach, and swim! We actually went snorkling for the first time, and this has been the highlight by far!!! They took us around for 6 hours, and we swam with turtles, fish with colours you didn't even know existed, sting rays (well, Matt saw one) and sharks!! Ok, so they might have been reef sharks... but still, one had to have been a meter long!!!

And yes Mum, I will let you know ALL about the food! There is a Thai soup that I have had several times, called Tom Yam. It is spicey, and delicious, but so hard to describe the flavours! I will go into more depth in the next posting, I promise!

We just booked our flight to Indonesia. We fly into Bali on Monday the 12th, and will eventually head to the Gili Islands (recommended by just about everyone we have met, and Soetopo of course!)

Rooms so far have been decent, except for one bed sheet that clearly had not been washed in a LONG time. Thank you SO much Sweeting for making me bring that sleep sheet!!!!

Talk to you soon.

  1. Well, you do a much better job of being adventuresome when you're with Matt than when you're with me! Snorkeling!! Good for you! (Remember we chickened out, or I chickened out, in Mexico?)

Thanks for the foody bit .... how can you not mention it?

    Lots of love, mum
